The End Our Cladding Scandal (EOCS) is a campaign group set up following the Government’s immediate response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy that claimed 72 lives on June 14th 2017.

Their campaigning on behalf of leaseholders affected by the cladding crisis remains as relevant in 2026 as it did when the group was founded in 2019. The government’s (past and present) response to the cladding crisis has left thousands of leaseholders stuck in unaffordable and unsellable flats that still require cladding and other fire safety remediation. Guidance on what is and isn’t safe and may/may not require remediating keeps changing - most recently ‘tolerable risk’ is being mooted as an acceptable building status, which leaves leaseholders facing high insurance costs and service charges and still facing difficulties selling and/or remortgaging because their building still contains flammable materials and/or missing or faulty safety measures.

We ask all Canary Riverside leaseholders to join the EOCS campaign so that you receive their email updates with news and how you can help by lobbying your MP.

Their latest campaign update can be found here, It’s a necessarily lengthy read, and we paste a key extract from it below, detailing their latest ‘call to action’ - which is to email your MP now. When writing we suggest you include the link to the EOCS’s latest campaign, and cut and paste the ‘A better way forward’ bit below. Ask your MP to write to Steve Reed and Samantha Dixon to demand action. Remember to cc your email to the EOCS email address.

Canary Riverside’s MP is Apsana Begum, and she is aware of Canary Riverside and the cladding scandal. Click here for Apsana’s email address.

A better way forward

The blame game has continued and Labour’s manifesto commitments on building safety look set to be broken.

But there is a better way forward, which would bring an end to this crisis, put leaseholders and residents at the heart of building safety, provide certainty, consistency and confidence across the system, and ensure that this Labour government keeps its promises.

Labour must turn Homes England’s National Remediation System into a National Remediation Scheme based on a National Remediation Standard, so that there is a simplified, independent and centrally-driven approach, with firm, visible oversight of the end-to-end remediation process and certain outcomes for leaseholders and residents at all buildings in the Remediation Portfolio.

This is not a pipe dream, and it is not too late. With the right leadership, this can be put in place quickly. We take some comfort from seeing this people-centred leadership at Homes England’s Cladding Safety Scheme since its introduction and at the BSR since the appointments of Andy Roe and Charlie Pugsley. MHCLG now has a new Director General for Buildings, Fire and Resilience and a new Remediation Policy Director – they must end the civil service blockages and help deliver meaningful change.

This is what Labour pledged in opposition and what leaseholders still desperately need.

We’ll be here as long as it takes

We know this update may feel disheartening, but we also know it will be no surprise to the countless people still trapped in this mess and unsure where to turn. We see you and we hear you – you are not alone and we will always be stronger together. This scandal is far from over and our team is ready to go again.

CALL TO ACTION!
The arc of moral justice is long, but it bends toward justice. We need each and every one of you to help apply pressure and get this fiasco the attention it deserves. So please send this update to your MP, tell them how and why you are still stuck in the building safety crisis and ask them to write to Steve Reed and Samantha Dixon to demand action. Please copy endourcladdingscandal@gmail.com on any relevant emails.
